Students interested in joining one of the choral ensembles – Chorale and Camel Heard — need to have their musical and technical proficiencies assessed. Auditions for incoming students will take place during Orientation on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 5:00-7:30 pm. There will be an information session at 4:30 pm. Check your orientation schedule for locations. Auditions for returning students who have never participated in a choral ensemble will take place on August 28, 3:00-4:00 pm and August 29, 2017, 4:15-5:45 pm.
Chorale Audition Requirements
For Chorale, please prepare 32 bars of any unaccompanied “classical,” musical theater, or folk song. “Happy Birthday” is a perfectly OK choice. Memorization is not required. The piano may be used to establish the starting pitch and tonality. You will also be asked to sight-read and to demonstrate your pitch memory.
Camel Heard Audition Requirements
For Camel Heard, please prepare an unaccompanied “classical” solo of your choosing that is 1 minute in length. Please also prepare your voice part of the following arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner (pay attention to this version’s rhythms and notes.
Memorization is not required for either of the pieces. The piano may be used to establish the starting pitch and tonality. You will also be asked to sight-read and to demonstrate your pitch memory. All singers invited to Camel Heard callbacks must attend on Thursday, August 31 4:15-5:45 PM. (Those who audition for Camel Heard will automatically be considered for Chorale.)
