Auditions

Students interested in joining one of the choral ensembles – Chorale and Camel Heard — need to have their musical and technical proficiencies assessed. Auditions for incoming students will take place during Orientation on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm in Cummings 218. Auditions for returning students who have never participated in a choral ensemble will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 5:15 pm-7:00 pm.

Chorale Audition Requirements
For Chorale, please prepare 16-32 bars of any unaccompanied “classical,” musical theater, or folk song. Happy Birthday is a perfectly OK choice. Memorization is not required. The piano may be used to establish the starting pitch and tonality. You will also be asked to vocalize and sight-read a short excerpt.

Camel Heard Audition Requirements
For Camel Heard, please prepare an unaccompanied “classical” solo of your choosing that is approximately 1 minute in length. Please also prepare your voice part of the following arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner (pay attention to this version’s rhythms and notes). You can download the music below

. (Note: If you sing 1st soprano or 1st tenor, please learn the 2nd soprano/2nd tenor part. If you sing alto, please learn the 2nd alto part.) Memorization is not required for either of the pieces. The piano may be used to establish the starting pitch and tonality. You will also be asked to vocalize and sight-read a short excerpt. All singers invited to Camel Heard callbacks must attend on Tuesday, August 28, 4:15-5:45 PM. (Those who audition for Camel Heard will automatically be considered for Chorale.)
